Spectacular finale to trilogy

Blockbuster hit the Dark Knight Rises provides a satisfying and grandiose finish to Christopher Nolan’s epic trilogy.

It’s eight years since Batman (Christian Bale) took the rap for Havey Dent/Two Face’s death and the caped crusader has since retired from Gotham City’s skies.

Not before too long, Bruce Wayne is forced to don his suit once more after brutish terrorist Bane (Tom Hardy) shows up, promising to be ‘‘Gotham’s reckoning’’.

Slinky cat burglar Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) is also up to no good, whereas idealistic cop John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Lewitt) is a decent introduction and distinguished trio Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman make up a distinguished cast.

However, the Bat doesn’t have it all his own way—and it’s apparent Bane’s threat to Gotham is very real.

While the Joker provided an intellectual battle for Batman, Bane’s combined physicality and homicidal tendencies are more than enough to keep our hero preoccupied.

There’s enough showpiece scenes in the movie to keep action lovers sated, while some of the softer scene’s delve into Wayne’s inner anguish.

As the city crumbles around him, Batman must give everything to overcome Bane and save Gotham.

While the storyline takes a while to get going in the first hour, the Dark Knight Rises’ finale is sensational.

It’s clear the story arc is over, with Bale declaring he won’t return as Batman again, the final act sets the franchise up perfectly for more sequels.
