Leading WA swimwear brand Kooey Australia has made a splash in the US at one of the world's biggest swimwear fashion events.

The brand, run by Mandurah's Nikki Silverthorne presented its 2013 summer collection on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, in Miami.

The appearance marks the third year at the prestigious MBFW Swim for the Perth label.

Kooey's Summer 2013 collection is inspired by opals.

"The colour palette reflects the beautiful rich colours in the opal," Silverthorne said. "We also pulled shapes and lines from the stone, as well as how the light reflects off the opal."

Models paraded 28 looks in the penthouse of The Raleigh Hotel in front of the newly crowned Miss USA, Olivia Culpo, who wore a Kooey Australia resort piece from the 2013 collection.

Culpo will also wear Kooey in the Miss Universe international final later this year, where she will go head to head with Perth's Renae Ayris who is the reigning Miss Universe Australia.

Perth supermodels, friends Jessica Gomes and Nicole Trunfio, are also at MBFW Swim, but are enjoying the fashion from the front row rather than on the catwalks.
