Have your say on Supertown plan
Manjimup residents are being urged to review proposed works to the town’s centre under the Supertowns program.
A number of projects to revitalise the centre of town have been proposed with work scheduled to begin this financial year.
Manjimup Shire Council president Wade De Campo said it was crucial residents had their say as the works would change the face of Manjimup forever.
‘‘People think they only have to make submissions if they disagree with something, but that’s not the case,’’ Cr De Campo said.
‘‘We want to hear everybody’s opinion, whether they agree or not.
‘‘This is a comprehensive upgrade of the whole of the town centre from arch to arch which people should be consulted on and want to have a say on.’’
Among the proposed works is new northern town site access,the removal of the unused rail corridor in the town centre, the creation of a transport corridor to the western side of town and the construction of extra road access points to facilitate town-centre links.
Another highlight of other projects is the creation of an attractive location for a tourism operator and the transformation of Brockman Street into a town square and additional pedestrian and cycling links.
Cr De Campo said he was particularly excited about the reopening of the Ipsen Street crossover, as well as the underground electrical power for Mottram Street and the new children’s playground in the Timber Park.
He described the playground as a victory for the Manjimup Family Child and Health Centre committee w h o ha d w o r ke d ha r d t o rai se $140,000 towards the $1.14 million project.
‘‘Thank you to the community reference group for their direction, I now encourage all members of the community to get involved and make comment,’’ he said.
The proposed works can be viewed at www.manjimup.wa.gov.au, in person at the Manjimup shire council depot on Wetherell Street, at the administration centre, or at Manjimup library.
