Tourism nominations announced

The Visitor Centre Association of Western Australia has announced it has received 19 nominations for the 2012 GWN7 Top Tourism Awards.

Celebrating its 23rd year of the awards, the association and GWN7 are extremely proud to once again be recognising the importance of visitor centres within the tourism industry in WA.

Top Tourism Award 2011 title holder Margaret River is amongst the visitor centres who have nominated for the prestigious awards, as well as first time entrants Christmas Island, Halls Creek and Rottnest Island.

Other nominees are Armadale, Augusta, Bridgetown, Busselton, Denmark, Derby, Dunsborough, Esperance, Fremantle, Kalbarri, Kalgoorlie, Kununurra, Laverton, Northampton and Shark Bay.

Association chairwoman Tracy Barr said it was fantastic to see so many visitor centres vying for recognition of best practice and helping to lift the profile of visitor centres within the WA tourism industry.

``I am thrilled to see all nineteen centres put their hat in the ring to be judged on the service they deliver,’’ Ms Barr said.

Finalists will be announced on August 10, which will be followed by the judge’s site visits in August and September.
