Johnson axed, Buswell reinstated in Cabinet reshuffle (cloned for SW 1340853780)
Troy Buswell has been reinstated at Treasurer in a Cabinet reshuffle

Troubled Police Minister Rob Johnson has been dumped from Cabinet and Troy Buswell reinstated as Treasurer in a major reshuffle announced by Premier Colin Barnett.

The new Police Minister and Road Safety Minister is Scarborough MLA Liza Harvey.

Mr Johnson was stripped of his Emergency Services portfolio in December over his handling of the Perth Hills bushfires in February 2011 and many considered it only a matter of time before the accident-prone minister lost his spot on the front bench.

The Premier, who has been acting treasurer since Christian Porter announced on June 12 his plan to seek preselection as the Liberal candidate for the Federal seat of Pearce, announced the Cabinet overhaul at a press conference this morning.

Mr Buswell was forced to stand down as treasurer in 2010 amid allegations he misused ministerial entitlements during his affair with one-time Greens MP Adele Carles. He was later cleared of any wrongdoing.

In other changes:

Peter Collier replaces retiring Education Minister Liz Constable.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and Attorney General Michael Mischin will be Attorney General, the other portfolio left vacant by Mr Porter.

Murray Cowper is new Training and Corrective Services Minister.

Terry Redman becomes Housing Minister.

Mr Johnson has been a figure of ridicule for the duration of the Barnett Government's time in office.

In March Federal Liberal MP Don Randall launched an extraordinary attack in Parliament, labelling Mr Johnson bumbling, weak and incompetent.

He has also been widely criticised for his comments on the decriminalisation of cannabis and his handling of police officer Ryan Marron's funding claims.

Liberal Party power brokers also believe that Mr Johnson’s seat of Hillarys, which is held by a margin of 11 per cent, could be occupied more productively by a younger, more dynamic force.

More to come.
