Green dream a reality in Yallingup
Green dream a reality in Yallingup

A Yallingup builder’s Quedjinup Drive home has been recognised for its green building practices at the HIA GreenSmart Awards last week.

SustainabuildNow owner Sepp Hock, who designed and built the house himself, received the Energy Efficiency Award which took into account the home’s passive solar design features, energy rating and use of energy saving materials and fittings as part of the judging criteria.

Mr Hock said the award added credibility to his work, and provided an educational aspect as it gave people a place to come to see what eco-designs were possible. He said many of the features in his home, including solar panels and hot water systems, insulation and solar passive designs could be applied to any house at affordable costs.

Mr Hock explained his passion for ecohomes started in his youth, watching his father turn a one-bedroom seaside fisherman’s cottage into a fully functional family home for his family.

“Learning to be efficient and sustainable was a natural process that was nurtured along the way, and here I am today, with a passion for eco homes, which are built simply, are functional, practical and very affordable,” he said.
