Fateful bike burglary spurs a sentimental plea

Rockingham residents Amy Baker and Bianca Long are pleading for the return of three bikes, one which is sentimental value because a friend died while riding it.

Rockingham and Kwinana motorcycle enthusiasts are pleading with the community to help locate three stolen off-road bikes, one of which held a lot of sentimental value.

The bikes were stolen from a Sulphur Road property in Parmelia between 12.30pm and 2pm last Monday.

Bike owner Ricky Drew believes the thieves knew he had bikes at his property because they forced their way in through his garage and solid-wood shopper door, taking the 2007 Honda CRF250, 2000 KTM 520 and a 2006 KXF 450, all of which were black in colour and not in working order.

"The thieves would have had a ute or van to transport them," he said. "We just want them back, no questions asked."

Mr Drew said the KTM was owned by long-time friend Kane Baker and had been in Mr Drew's family for about 12 years.

He said of all the bikes, he wanted that one returned the most because of its sentimental value.

The KTM was the motorcycle another friend died on while riding on Stakehill Road in 2003.

Mr Drew said his mate hit a tree and died at the scene but the bike was kept because it signified their friendship and was a vehicle they grew up riding on.

Mr Baker's wife Amy agreed the KTM was invaluable.

"Kane always promised the bike would stay, it would go on the wall before it would go to the tip - it meant a lot to my husband," she said.

Kwinana police Senior Constable Mark Archibald said police were investigating the incident but warned owners to record their vehicle's VIN number to help track down stolen bikes.

He urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
