It will be an emotional time for the Wright family this weekend as they pull together for the Cancer Council's Relay For Life in memory of their loved one Bec.

A week short of her 15th birthday, Bec died from an aggressive stomach cancer in August 2010.

Sick since March that year, doctors did not diagnose the cause of Bec's symptoms of severe stomach pain, fatigue and weight loss as a tumour until two months before her death.

Bec's mother, Tina Wright, said doctors had suggested her daughter had an eating disorder until further testing revealed the cancerous tumour in her stomach.

"By that stage it was too late, as the tumour was too big to operate on," she said.

Mrs Wright said last year she and her husband, Ted, decided to start their own Relay For Life team in honour of their daughter - Bec Cos We Care.

"She was full of life, she didn't take any nonsense from anybody, and she loved animals and reading books," she said.

"I think she would probably think we were mental for walking for 24 hours - she'd probably prefer to sit and read her book while we did the walking.

"But I'm sure she wouldn't want any other families to go through the same thing."

The family has been hit hard by cancer, with Mrs Wright also fighting breast cancer in 2012 and having a double mastectomy in 2013.

Mrs Wright hoped the community would get behind the Rockingham Kwinana event.

"The more people donate, the more funds Cancer Council will get for research to help prevent and stop cancers," she said. Last year the Bec Cos We Care team raised $7400 and so far this year they have raised $2800.

The Rockingham Kwinana event is being held on May 23 and 24 from 11am to 11am the next day at the Village Green.
