Push for Baldivis to breakaway electorate

Baldivis electors should break away from Warnbro and Kwinana seats, to form their own electorate, according to community leader Matthew Whitfield.

Mr Whitfield said he believed State electoral boundaries should be reconsidered and the suburb's 13,700 electors represented separately, in light of unprecedented growth in the area.

He said his ideas had gained community support and he hoped Electoral Boundaries WA would consider his plan.

"The land-use patterns in the north and south of Baldivis are identical and there is no reason for the suburb to be split as it currently is," Mr Whitfield said.

"The trend of demographic changes means that the recorded number of electors in March 2015 will increase by potentially 10 per cent next year alone, again reinforcing the need for change."

Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake said changes to State boundaries should be expected ahead of the 2017 election, because the overall population had increased to 1,470,451 electors.
