At nearly 60, comedian, actress and writer Denise Scott praises her audiences for keeping her comedy career alive.

A barrel of laughs, Scott is well known for her role as the lovable Trish Gross on Winners and Losers and has made many appearances on Spicks and Specks.

She will headline this year's Comedy for Cure and Care event alongside long-time friend, comedian and presenter Peter Rowsthorn.

"Pete sort of put me on to it and got me involved in it," Scott said.

"I have got to say he is the funniest man in the world - God, he's a riot that guy."

Comedy for Cure and Care raises money to support West Australians diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood-related diseases.

Scott says charity events are something she holds close to her heart.

"It is a really fantastic privilege to be able to do something to help raise money for good causes," she said. "It is a real simple way of giving back something because I have quite a good time doing my work and it feels good putting it to good use."

Scott began stand-up comedy in the 1980s as a way of earning money while waiting for an acting gig.

"In this business, in Australia, you do whatever work you get," she said.

"I have to work hard at it, especially now that I am old.

"I find the older I get, the more aware I am of how much work I have to do to keep going, to keep getting gigs, keep it fresh and relevant to people."

As well as being a successful writer, actress and comedian, Scott joked about her new found passion in crocheting.

"I'm all right at it," she said.

"I have made a massive bedspread and I seem to have quite the flair for it and have become quite addicted to it."

The Leukaemia Foundation's Comedy for Cure and Care will start at 8pm on Friday, April 10. Tickets cost $59 adults and $57 for Friends of Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
