Penalties hurt clubs

It was a round of drama in the East Kimberley Football League at the weekend, with finals contenders Wirrimanu Tigers and Kururrungku Roos both losing in controversial circumstances.

The second-placed Tigers had been well ahead of Halls Creek Hawks and on track for their sixth win of the season on Friday night.

However, a head count revealed they had 19 players on the ground during the final quarter, which resulted in their scored being wiped.

The incident meant Tigers finished the match 1.0 (6) to the Hawks' 6.10 (46).

Friday night's match-up between Waringarri Crows and Kururrungku Roos also ended in controversy when the Roos lost their score for fielding an unregistered player.

The Roos had been ahead of the Crows by seven points at the final siren but lost the match after it was revealed star player Waylon Manson did not have a permit to play from the Victorian-based club where he is currently registered.

The final result saw Crows 8.7 (55) defeat Roos 0.0 (0).

In other matches, Bow River Blues recorded a big win over Yardgee Dockers 16.7 (103) to 8.6 (54), Warmun Eagles edged out Kununurra Demons 10.7 (67) to 7.13 (55), while an eight-goal haul from Zac Baggs saw Ord River Magpies demolish an under-strength Port Wyndham Crocs by 167 points.

In a handy percentage boost, the Magpies held the Crocs scoreless in the first half and went on to win 27.18 (180) to 2.1 (13) on Saturday afternoon.
