Cable Beach event aims to promote participation

The date of this year's Cable Beach Triathlon has been confirmed as Sunday, August 23, with participants set to swim, ride and run their way to the finish line.

Organised and run by the Broome Tri Club, the event has a focus on participation and inclusivity.

There will be three distances in this year's event.

The enticer category features a 250m swim, a 5km ride and a 2km run, with the fun grading increasing the distances to 400m, 9.5km and 4km respectively.

For the sprint discipline, competitors will embark on a 750m swim, a 19km ride and a 6km run.

Broome Tri Club president Megan Erbs said the club was excited about bringing back the Cable Beach Triathlon.

"We really want to encourage novices and newbies," she said.

"It's far enough away to give everyone plenty of time to train and we're sure there will be some social competitiveness out there to give people that extra push.

"There is a choice of distances, and team options for every distance, so there's no excuse for people not to commit to at least one leg."

Erbs said the event would be sponsored by Leading Edge Computers for the next three years.

Company managing director Nicola Walters said she was delighted to support the club and the event.

"As a regional small business owner, I'm very aware of the benefits of participating in sport and wanting to support an event which will be accessible to everyone in the community," she said.
