Showcase a jump shot at life

Kununurra, Fitzroy Crossing and Derby girls from years 7 to 12 will travel to Perth next month to take part in an annual basketball competition at Curtin Stadium.

More than 130 girls academy students will attend the Role Models and Leaders Australia Basketball Showcase from June 2-5.

Students aged 12-18 take part in a two-day basketball tournament, a one-hour jump session at Bounce and the opportunity to meet girls from academies all around Australia.

It is the seventh annual academy event hosted by Curtin University through its AHEAD program, which aims to inspire students to continue on to higher education.

Students will stay at Woodman Point Recreation Camp in Munster.

The Kimberley academies are part of Role Models and Leaders Australia, which operates in 12 locations across WA, the NT and NSW, and caters to 850 indigenous girls from around Australia.

The academies provide mentoring and support for high school girls by using sport and extra-curricular activities to keep students engaged in education.
