Sharks keep falcons winless

Dampier Sharks have moved to the top of the table on percentages after a 33-point victory over the winless Karratha Falcons at Bulgarra Oval on Friday night.

The Sharks came out of the gates strong with a four goals to one first quarter.

It was a much more even contest in the second, with the Sharks booting 5.4 to the Falcons’ 4.0 to head into the main break ahead 60 to 35.

The Falcons continued to go tit-for-tat with the visitors after the break, with both teams putting on another three goals a-piece.

The home team kept fighting but couldn’t close the gap opened at the start of the match.

In the end a three-goal final quarter capped off a consistent match for the Sharks, taking the spoils 15.13 (103) to 10.10 (70).

There was a silver lining for the Falcons with start forward Michael Formanczyk booting five goals for the match, taking him up to third place on the league goal kicking tally.

David Walley and best on ground James Rhodes bagged three each for the Sharks to have them sitting second and eighth on the list.

After the round five matches at the weekend, every league team except the Falcons is on three wins and two losses.

The reserves match result was almost a carbon copy of the league fixture, the Sharks again taking it out 16.6 (102) to 10.11 (71).

The Falcons’ reserves had the wood on the visitors for the first half going into the break three points ahead.

The second stanza was a different ballgame however, with the Sharks reserves hitting their straps and taking the game away from the Falcons.

A five-goal third quarter by the Sharks took the wind out of the Falcons, who only managed a further three majors after the main break.
