Newcomer tilts at national title

Broome's Alan Ingram was crowned First Time INBA Perth Classic Bodybuilding Champion earlier this month.

A Broome muscle-man has become a State bodybuilding champion in his first competition and will participate in the national equivalent in Sydney this weekend.

Alan Ingram made the decision last year to take his natural inclination for health and fitness to the next level, with the athlete undergoing strict training and nutrition programs.

The Kimberley man entered the International Natural Bodybuilding Association WA Perth Classic on May 17 and walked away with first place in the first timers category.

Ingram also picked up second places in the novice and under-72kg categories.

As a result, he is set to compete at the INBA City Nationals this Sunday in the first timers, novice and open class 1 under-170cm levels.

If successful, Ingram would qualify for the World Championships in Dubai next month.

He told the Broome Advertiser that he had to overcome significant barriers to compete at the Perth event, including the death of his mother and his mother-in-law being diagnosed with liver cancer.

"The biggest reward this journey has given me is seeing the positive effect my training, determination and dedication has had on others," he said.

"It's so exciting and motivating to continue on through your own fitness journey when you realise the impact and changes you have made in other people's lives.

"I would like to thank everyone who has supported me along the way, including family, friends, work colleagues, my coach and both owners, staff and members of Life and Soul 24/7 Broome and 24/7 Power Fitness Wanneroo."

Ingram's bodybuilding journey has been made so far without outside financial assistance and he is currently looking for sponsorship.
