A star-studded night was enjoyed by the North West building industry recently when representatives gathered for the annual Master Builders Bankwest Building Excellent Awards.

About 260 guests from the Kimberley and Pilbara glammed up for the evening to celebrate the glitzy black-tie event held at Zanders.

This year's theme was the Orient Express.

The awards ceremony was led by master of ceremonies George Manning, who welcomed special guests WA Commerce Minister Michael Mischin and MBA president John Ripp.

Once again, Kimberley builders were well-represented among the winners, with Broome Builders scooping seven awards, including most affordable family home, best appointed bathroom and best appointed kitchen.

H&M Tracey Construction was recognised in five categories, including employer trainer of the year and most livable home.

Colin Wilkinson Developments scooped two awards, including best commercial alterations and additions over $6,500,000 for the Kimberley Training Institute's new Broome Trade Training Centre.

Brolga Developments and Construction received three awards, while Tjallara won one accolade.

Master Builders regional manager Di Gilleland said it was good to see a number of new entrants from Broome receiving awards this year including Custom Lifestyle Homes, North West Builders and Buildmore - which was awarded Best Kimberley Home.

The supervisor of the year title went to Glenn Schluter, of Norbuilt.

Broome apprentice Isaac Cork, of Zapped Electrical, was named apprentice of the year.

Ms Gilleland said the event was another tremendous success and an opportunity for representatives to join together and celebrate the best builders in the industry.
