Asbestos find shuts station

Roebourne Police Station forced to close after asbestos find

Roebourne Police Station has been closed after an annual building inspection found asbestos in the building.

WA Police said significant building works would need to be undertaken resulting in staff at the Roebourne facility relocated to Karratha Police Station until works were completed.

It is estimated the works will take seven days.

A statement from the police said officers would ensure that the policing response to the Roebourne community would not be interrupted.

If you require police attendance please phone 131 444. For life threatening emergencies phone 000.

Since last year, officers serving the Wickham area are also based in the Roebourne facility after the Wickham station was deemed surplus to WA Police requirements.

The Wickham station hadn't been used since the start of 2012.
