A family whose dog went missing in Karratha is holding a barbecue this weekend to thank those who helped find her.

Catha Rina's dog Layla went missing around Nickol on April 24, spurring Mrs Rina to post desperately across local Facebook pages to try find her beloved mutt.

Coming from Port Hedland, Layla was unfamiliar with the Karratha area and was timid in nature due to an abusive upbringing before moving in with her current owners.

After being spotted near the seven-mile bridge on April 29 Layla was not sighted again for two weeks.

That was until Sunday, when a distressed and hungry Layla was spotted near the Balmoral Caravan Park.

Though Layla ran away into the scrubs, she was reunited with her owners at 5am the next morning, and by all reports was happy despite her tiring ordeal.

Mrs Rina said the family would hold a sausage sizzle at noon on Sunday, May 17 at Baynton West Park to show their appreciation for those who helped return Layla home.

Layla the Karratha wanderer will be present as well for a photo opportunity.
