Karijini event gives a taste of culture

With less than two weeks to go until the Karijini Experience returns to the Pilbara's most well-known natural landmark, accommodation and tickets are selling fast as visitors prepare to fly in from interstate and even overseas.

The event will see Karijini National Park act as a backdrop for a four-day cultural immersion, with activities such as cooking, photography, astronomy, basket-weaving and opera hosted from May 1 to 4.

IBN chief executive Tony McRae said the Karijini Experience was a perfect way for people to understand the culture and landscape of the Banyjima land on which the park sits.

"Over the four days, people can get a real insight into the cultural heritage and beauty of the North West Pilbara region, and it is my hope that the experience will inspire in people the deep respect for country that is central to Aboriginal culture," he said.

"It's our aim to continue supporting the organisers in creating a nationally recognised event that draws visitors from across Australia."

Karijini Eco Retreat spokeswoman Di Bellow said deluxe eco tents with ensuites and unpowered campsites were still available, but deluxe eco tents had sold out for May 2.

"We are already selling out fast and expect to completely sell out our deluxe eco tent accommodation very soon," she said.

"A key highlight is the opportunity to explore the depths of this magical gorge country from a range of different perspectives - but the program is packed with so much variety that naming the best would be mission impossible.

"There are tour and activity options for all age groups and tastes, all richly infused with food, music and artistic flair."

Mrs Bellow said savings of up to 40 per cent were available for Karijini Experience ticket holders who booked on the phone.
