Newman to host next zone round

Karting is a thrilling and inexpensive motorsport.

The Newman Kart Club is expecting about 60 competitors to hit the track this weekend for the second round of Pilbara-wide racing.

After the first round was held in Tom Price in March, Newman will this Saturday and Sunday host the Northern Zone round 2 action in which competitors from as far afield as Karratha, Hedland and Exmouth are expected to take part.

Newman Kart Club president Stuart Gill said entry for spectators was free and it was well worth dropping in for a look at the thrilling sport.

"Karting is well known as the best value form of motorsport as it teaches you how to race centimetres apart from other karts, at over 100km/h, with your bum a centimetre off the track," he said.

"There are eight different classes to suit all budgets and it is the friendliness of all of the racers that gets people hooked, plus the adrenalin rush you get on the track."

"Each town has a kart club that is always happy to talk karting with anyone that is interested."

As well as the racing, there will be bar and food facilities on the Sunday.

There is even the chance for those wanting to experience karting to take to the track themselves, with Pilbara Kart Hires renting rides on "twin-engine monsters" on Saturday night after practice.

The next zone rounds are in Port Hedland on May 31 and Karratha on August 8, before the final round at Exmouth on September 12. For kart hire bookings call 0417 968 022.
