Snake slithers into school library

It was a case of mistaken identity this afternoon when a snake slithered into Kununurra Community and School Library, worming between shelves and exploring the children’s section.

The wannabe-bookworm glided from the young adults' section, stopping in at the L section for a look, before staking out the children’s books area for a novel to sink its fangs into.

Library staff took to Facebook this afternoon to share the images, joking they would be requesting “danger money” from the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley, which manages the venue.

“So we had a rather interesting guest in the Library today unfortunately he had to be asked to leave by some lovely DEC officers,” they wrote.

"The staff at the Library is now requesting danger money.

“He was a Keelback snake which is non-venomous but does look very similar to a king brown. Very similar. He has been re-homed in the bush.”

Staff did not specify how the Keelback entered the library.

Snakes in unusual places are not a strange phenomenon for Kimberley residents.

The Kimberley Echo understands earlier this year a staff member at Kununurra Hospital was surprised to find a snake inside one of the hospital printers.
