Top training tips for tackling Argyle swim

With a little over a month until race day, Lake Argyle Swim organiser Glenn Taylor has released his top tips for competitors wanting to hone their training ahead of the race.

Taylor said there was still plenty of time to put in some quality training or even start preparations for some of the more social teams.

He said the key to good training was to simulate what you would be doing on race day.

"If you are in the pool every day, swimming 2.5km at a steady pace, you will become very good at swimming 2.5km at a steady pace," he said.

"However, if on race day you are in a quad 10km team, taking turns at swimming flat-out for five minutes each, your 2.5km sessions at a steady pace will not be great race-day practice."

Taylor said swimming fast for five minutes and resting before going again would be better preparation for a team swimmer.

The Lake Argyle Swim is a 10km or 20km open-water race that is tackled either solo or in teams of two or four.

Race day is Saturday, May 2.
