The Slam proves a hit

Donations of sports shoes can be made to The Slam program by visting the JD Hardie Youth Zone.

The success of The Slam basketball program has continued with a group of about 50 attending the second session of the year.

The young people were joined by 16 volunteers from the community and various agencies at the JD Hardie Youth Zone last week.

Now in its third year, the program gets young people involved in sport while also providing them with a regular weeknight recreational activity, development opportunities and a chance for some friendly competition on the basketball courts.

During the session the players were also provided with a free healthy meal.

This year, The Slam will run for a total of 10 sessions, every second Thursday from 5pm to 8pm at the JD Hardie Youth Zone in South Hedland.

Unwanted sports shoes can be donated to the program by visiting JD Hardie or Wirraka Maya.
