Sport support scheme changed

Hedland sporting clubs will soon be able to choose between receiving free reserve hire or cash support when hosting regional championships.

The Town of Port Hedland Mayor Kelly Howlett announced the proposed changes to the Regional Championship Support Policy last week in response to many clubs already having their own facilities.

Clubs will also be required to submit their regional championship applications 6 to 12 months in advance to allow for assessment and budget planning.

"A sporting club or organisation is entitled to the use of two recreation reserves during the championship period each year and will receive support from the Town in terms of promotion, advertising and logistical needs," Ms Howlett said.
