Residents at Osprey get reimbursed

The Department of Housing has admitted it is now reimbursing electricity costs to Osprey Village tenants as well as paying back rental payments.

The Telegraph late last month revealed the department had begun paying back $195,000 to tenants after it had earlier announced a drop in rents to match market prices.

Now, department general manager commercial and business operations Paul Whyte said tenants were also being reimbursed for excess payments on their electricity bills.

"Electricity rates were reduced on September 1, 2014 due to the termination of the carbon tax," he said.

"The department and Fleetwood are in the process of backdating this credit to July 1, 2014."

Mr Whyte said claims by some tenants that village manager Fleetwood Corporation had added an administrative fee onto the cost of electricity provided by Horizon Power were unfounded.
