Pilbara motocross lovers have until 5pm today to register their place in The Smarter than Smoking Newman MX Memorial, which starts this weekend.

Hosted by the Newman Motorcycle Club, the event runs at the Echo Park Motocross Track on Saturday and Sunday and has already attracted a host of top riders from not only the Pilbara, but across the country.

Newman Motorcycle Club president John Harley said he was excited to be able to bring this quality of racing to the Pilbara.

"(We've had) nominations from several of Western Australia's fastest motocross riders, and even some State champions making their way all the way up here for the first big MX event in 2015," he said.

The Newman Memorial is not only a chance for the fastest riders to kick up the dirt, it is also a fun family day out with plenty of events for the children as well, according to the club.

These include junior races on Saturday ranging from 50cc to 250cc bikes, as well as quads.

The next day includes events for men, women, over-35s and quad riders.

In addition to the racing action, Michael Addison and Cody Mackie from On Track and CM33 will also hold a coaching clinic today and tomorrow before the weekend's events. The clinic is open to all ages and levels.

The club urged anyone interested to come along.

The friendly spirit of the event is said to have come from its origins after two local riders Danny Outram and Michael Brack founded it to remember lost members of the club.

A full bar and canteen will run at the event with information available at www.newmanmx.com , or by calling Sarah Samwell on 0409 377 221.
