Police seize bikie's Harley

Police believe the Rebels bikie gang is actively recruiting for its Port Hedland chapter.

The claim came after a man, believed to be a gang member, had his motorcycle seized by police last night for allegedly doing a burn-out.

The 36-year-old man was allegedly riding with another Rebels member when he was pulled over at Port Hedland shopping centre by four uniformed police officers.

He was charged with causing excessive noise and has been summonsed to appear in court.

Port Hedland police Sergeant Jason Gentili said the Rebels gang formed its Hedland chapter in 2013 and police were monitoring its members and club house closely.

“The Hedland Rebels chapter has about a dozen (members) between patched and associates, we know who they are,” he said.

“They have a club house here and another substantial one in Karratha.”

Sgt Gentili said the Rebels were not the first gang to set up in the town with members of the Coffin Cheaters living locally or working in town on a fly-in, fly-out basis.

He said police had a zero-tolerance approach to criminal agencies and that identified gang members would be questioned by police.

“We will pull them over and gather intelligence from them,” Sgt Gentili said.

“We will try and find out who they are, where they’re from and what badges they’re wearing.”
