Tu Meke open title defence with win

Broome's touch football season started for 2015 last Thursday, with tries galore lighting up the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre ovals.

A total of 24 teams went head-to-head with A and B divisions hosted this year.

Defending A-grade champions Tu Meke were missing injured captain Sean Connelly but still started their title defence with a 9-4 victory over Greenbacks, who have returned to the fold after missing a couple of seasons.

Last season's defeated grand finalists Bullets showed their intent to go one better this year with a 14-5 win over Sofa Kings.

Sharks overcame The Untouchables 12-4, in a closer contest than the scoreline suggests.

Phoenix Flyers have a number of new players and won a thriller over the experienced Runaways, 8-7.

Stingrays provided the upset of the night after being promoted to A-division, beating Scoregasms 3-2 in a tight encounter.

Avengers are a new team and started their campaign with an 8-7 victory over Kiss My Pass, who have also been elevated to the top grading.

In B division, First National Rockets showed their continued improvement with an 8-5 win over Antics, who have been rebranded this term.

Junior side Touch Too Much were led by captain Jordan Bacon and posted an impressive 7-1 victory over Kamikaze Kids, playing some expansive football in the process.

Shinju Stingers were too strong for Try Hards, taking the spoils 9-5 in an end-to-end clash.

The Exploders look like one of the frontrunners at this level and started with a 14-7 win over a plucky Saints side.

Yo Play beat Untouchables 8-3 in a re-run of one of last season's semifinals, while Chalkies recorded a 5-3 victory over Trotters.
