The next eight weeks promise an exciting and busy close to the water polo season in Karratha.

In last week's round, the Barracudas proved once again they were a force to be reckoned with in the pool, winning both matches in the men's competition.

In the first game, the Barracudas defeated the Pirates in a closely fought battle 7-5.

Nigel Kroonstuiver scored five goals for the Barracudas, earning him a fairest and best nomination.

Fairest and best was also awarded to Rhys Knight and Martin Richards.

In the men's second match, the Barracudas defeated the Krakens 11- 5.

Kroonstuiver kept his winning form going, putting another five goals away for the Barracudas and earning his second fairest and best award for the night.

Awards also went to Luke Coldwell and Angus Armstrong.

In the women's game, the Pirates defeated the Barracudas 9-6.

The highest goal scorers were Barracudas' Alex Dobbin and Pirates' Anouska Angove, scoring three goals each. Fairest and best went to Angove, Amy Kroonstuiver and Laura Povey.

Karratha Water Polo Association's local competition will come to an official close at the Karratha Leisureplex grand finals on Thursday, March 19.

KWPA president Justin Angove said he hoped the grand finals would attract a good crowd of spectators from the local community.

"Both men's and women's games will be hotly contested, with many players returning with fresh new skills and experience from the Country Championships," he said.

The Karratha Marlins will be playing the State's best country-based water polo players this weekend at the South West Sports Centre in Bunbury.

KWPA's water polo season will come to an official close with the 2015 National Country Championships at the Karratha Leisureplex over the Easter long weekend.

Volunteers are still being sought to assist with catering and transport for the teams.
