Nolan keeps positive

General Carrying Racing's Matt Nolan has ended the opening round of the 2014 Australian V8 Ute Racing Series protected by Hawkei in 23rd outright.

The Newman driver remains upbeat about his chances in the upcoming rounds as he gains further experience among his new team, Big Gun Racing and their Ford FG Falcon Ute.

Following up from a 24th place finish in the first race of the weekend, Nolan directed his focus onto race two which would include an intriguing battle throughout the nine-lap event with teammate and Big Gun Racing team owner, Peter Burnitt.

While Nolan remained reserved at times, he emphasised it was one of his true highlights of the weekend as he went on to take 21st by race end.

With progression continually being made with car set-up, Nolan believes that strong results aren't far away.

"The second race was a good one, in particular the battle with Peter (Burnitt). The pressure was on but there were no silly moves," he said.

"I feel I am continually improving in my ability to adapt to different situations in the new car; the General Carrying Racing Ute is straight and the tyres are in a good condition so I'm really looking forward to the final race of the weekend."

Nolan's chances of a strong result in the final race were impacted from the outset after stalling at the start.

With increased pressure in handling, Nolan fought his way to 22nd, ending a mixed opening round of the new V8 Ute season.

Round two of the 2014 Australian V8 Ute Racing Series protected by Hawkei will take place at the Perth 400 from May 16 to 18.
