Making a big difference

The Kyle Andrews Foundation is preparing for its fifth annual fundraising walk, with a free "mini-expo" for Broome businesses, clubs and not-for-profit organisations to be included this year.

Kyle's Cable Beach Walk will take place in June in memory of Kyle Andrews.

After being diagnosed with leukaemia, the Broome youngster had a dream of bringing his friends from Princess Margaret Hospital to Broome so "they might feel better." KAF is strongly supported each year and 2014's walk will include a family-focused exhibition day at the culmination.

KAF media liaison officer Jules Bonner said the idea originated after the news that this year's North West Expo had been postponed.

"Because KAF is so well supported by the community, once the NW Expo was cancelled we thought there could be a way for us to give back," she said.

"With KAF so well supported, it seemed like a prime opportunity to utilise the walk and the attendees to give back to the community with a free opportunity to promote themselves."

The exhibition will take place on Cable Beach Amphitheatre, with businesses, not-for-profit organisations, clubs, schools and groups welcome to promote themselves.

Walk co-ordinator Kellie Smith said this year's walk was set to be bigger than ever, with the mini-expo a chance to say thanks to the organisation's supporters.

"It is the fifth year (of the walk), and we hope this year it is going to be bigger and better," she said.

"We have had good feedback so far. Each year we have been just short of 1000 participants, but this year I think we will definitely hit it, especially with the event afterwards."

Groups interested in exhibiting will be allocated a space and are asked to bring their own stalls to setup and pack away.
