Hedland shutterbug starts club

Many Pilbara landscapes conjure superlatives, and a Hedland resident is leading the charge to ensure it's captured in all its splendour.

Rebecca Morrison, a South Hedland resident of nine years, has launched the Hedland Camera Club and is looking for like-minded snappers.

The 27-year-old mother-of-three likes nothing better than to capture the fury of a thunderstorm or the vast, red, open plains of the Pilbara, and she knows she's not alone.

"I've always wanted to join a camera club but there's never been one," she said.

"It got to the point where I thought, let's see what needs to be done and that's how it started."

She hopes to garner support for the HCC, still in its infancy after a mere two weeks, with members of all skill levels to meet once a month and attend workshops.

Participants' work will be showcased and appreciated by other members and professional photographers.

Ms Morrison has experimented with her DSL camera for eight years, but has been interested in photography since her formative years.

An after-school workshop sparked her interest in the hobby and she's been hooked ever since.

When asked what her favourite subject matter was she said: "definitely landscapes".

"We live in the most beautiful place in the world as far as I'm concerned," she said.

"Where else do you see such strong reds, sky shows, lightning and sunsets.

"It really is magical."

The cost of joining the club will be $35 a year with a once-off joining fee of $15.
