Fundraising Buddies ride for the community

Leanne Koedyk from SAFE and Jack Russell cross Charlie with Fundraising Buddies Casey Wood, 14, Tenayah Colling, 13, Jasmine Loda-Batey, 14, and Kira Landers, 13.

For most high school students, weekends are reserved for relaxation, but four generous teens will be doing quite the opposite this weekend as they embark on a fundraising bike ride to Coolgardie.

The Fundraising Buddies - Casey Wood, Kira Landers, Tenayah Colling and Jasmine Loda-Batey - are a group of Year 9 students with a passion for helping the community.

Since January, the teenagers have been holding sausage sizzles and other events, fundraising for Kalgoorlie-Boulder group Saving Animals From Euthanasia.

The girls will leave from Centennial Park tomorrow at 7.30am for the nearly 40km journey.

Despite the fact none of them has done anything like this before, Fundraising Buddies president Casey, 14, said they were confident they could make the distance.

"It's for a really good cause," she said.

"SAFE does a really great thing in the community and they don't get as much funding as other charities, so we thought we would give them a hand.

"And we all like animals, so it was an easy decision."

Since last August, the Buddies have been raising money for a different community group or fundraiser every month, but decided to dedicate four months to SAFE, members of which will join in the ride.

Not including the total currently raised for SAFE, the group has collected more than $3500, including $2000 from Movember alone.
