Prizes lure anglers to Brown Water Classic

Anglers are gearing up for one of the Kimberley's most lucrative fishing competitions, Wyndham's Brown Water Classic.

The two-day competition, to be held on April 26 and 27, offers more than $10,000 in prizes, including $2000 cash for the biggest barramundi landed.

Prizes of $1500 are also on offer for the biggest boat-based barra and land-based barra, while the $1000 biggest threadfin salmon and jewfish prizes are also back.

Landing a monster catfish will also not go unrewarded, with a $700 prize on offer, while a great photo of a shark could also win $500.

Two new categories will also be introduced, with Home Valley Station and El Questro Wilderness Park accommodation vouchers on offer for the biggest mangrove jack and biggest fingermark.

Junior anglers also have incentives to drop a line, with $550 of prizes on offer for categories including biggest barra, threadfin salmon, jewfish and catfish.

Organiser Simon Turnbull said the first competition day would start with a breakfast barbecue at 4.45am, where entrants could sign on and collect their official measuring mats.

"It will be from here on where you will be tested to your wits' end by the mighty barra in your attempt to claim the top prize," he said.

Registration for the competition is $60 for adults and $30 for juniors or $150 for a family of two adults and two juniors.

Forms and payment can be collected and lodged from the Wyndham Supermarket or St John Ambulance in Kununurra.
