Awards committee seeks members

Organisers of the 2014 East Kimberley Sports Awards are already planning the October event.

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley and the Department of Sport and Recreation have come together to create this year's event, but are seeking additional committee members.

The 2013 awards honoured sporting stars, coaches, clubs, volunteers and officials.

It was the first sports award night held in Kununurra in more than 10 years.

Kimberley Regional officer Maria Geier said she was looking for extra input this year.

"We would love to have more people on the committee from across the spread of clubs," she said.

"We can certainly go ahead as we are now, but we want people to know that it (the committee) is open to them," she said.

"If people have experience or ideas or can volunteer time, then that's great."

"We were thrilled with how last year went, but I think for some people maybe there was not enough awareness about the awards being on."

While there is no official date set yet, it is likely to be held in late October.

"Being such a close community, sport means so much to so many people. It runs through the vein of the town and brings people together," Ms Geier said.

"It would be great for every club to consider putting forward one kind of nomination - it helps showcase their club as well at the end of the day."

Players, coaches, referees and match officials are eligible but cannot nominate themselves.
