Well Women celebrate new connections

Hedland Well Women’s Centre celebrated the expansion of a long running partnership with BHP Billiton last week.

A new $300,000 grant will provide funding for programs including Home Away from Home, counselling services and Women on Wellness.

Well Women’s Centre chief executive Denise Bevins said the new funds would help build the capacity of the organisation to make a real impact on the lives of local women.

Ms Bevins also unveiled “The Girls Guide to Hedland”.

“The Girls Guide to Hedland is a purse sized map designed by Hedland women for Hedland women,” she said.

The map offers a female insight into the best spots to buy coffee, partake in retail therapy, sip a cocktail or attend a pamper session.

BHP Billiton Iron Ore community manager port and rail Peta Greening said the company was pleased to support the Well Women’s Centre.

“Our partnership aims to enhance the centre’s services, with a particular focus on reducing the sense of isolation people can feel living away from their established support networks,” she said.
