Lucky lotto outlet celebrates $29,000 win

South Hedland was abuzz with excitement last week when it was revealed a local newsagency sold a Division 2 winning ticket in the $100 million Oz Lotto draw.

The $29,000 prize follows two other Division 2 winning sales over the past six weeks for the South Hedland Shopping Centre agency.

Owner Linda Owen said the prizes had come across Oz Lotto, Saturday Lotto and Powerball.

“It’s really good that we have had a few,” she said.

“At the moment though it’s like being the bridesmaid three times without being the bride.

“We’ve got (a large jackpot for) Powerball coming up this week and you only need one more ball (for the top prize).”

Ms Owen said there was no secret to the success other than some agents just being luckier than others.

“We’ve been really fortunate that this establishment over its time has had 14 first-division wins that I’m aware of and four since I’ve had ownership,” she said.

“We have a very busy outlet in general and turn out a lot of tickets.”

Ms Owen said leading into last Tuesday’s draw the store had a queue outside that snaked towards K-Mart and then through the mall.

“It’s been non-stop and Powerball has now jackpotted to $30 million so I expect it will remain busy,” she said.

Four Australians shared in last week’s $100 million Oz Lotto jackpot which had a Division 1 prize pool of $111,972,151.

It was the largest Division 1 prize pool ever offered in Australian Lotto history, with each winner taking home $27.9 million.
