A 28-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to Perth last night after his bike collided with a car in Karratha.

Sen. Const. Ian Hollins, of Karratha police, said the man suffered serious head and leg injuries and was taken to Nickol Bay Hospital.

He was later taken to Royal Perth Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The RFDS plane landed in Karratha about 10pm.

Sen. Const. Hollins said the female driver of the Ford sedan suffered minor head injuries and was taken to Nickol Bay Hospital by ambulance.

She was released last night.

The head-on crash happened on Nickol Road, near Lewis Drive, about 6pm.

It is believed the man suffered bleeding to the brain, a fractured skull and a broken leg and is in an induced coma. He remains in a critical condition this morning.

Major crash officers are investigating.
