Natural treasures attract reef walkers

A seaside adventure was on the cards for many residents last week when they set out to explore the beautiful rocky reefs of Hedland.

Care for Hedland Association reef enthusiast Doris Teufel, who hosted the walks on four mornings last week, said it was the busiest series of reef walks she had witnessed.

“It’s been great to see so many families come along and enjoy this natural treasure that is right on their doorstep,” she said.

The morning walks left each day from a different section of Cemetery Beach, where vast arrays of sealife including blueringed octopuses were spotted along the shore. “Although it takes a while to make your way to the rock pools with big boulders and hard coral, there is always something to see and explore,” Ms Teufel said.

Care for Hedland will run another series of reef walks next month from September 16 – 21.
