Salerno Law Half Marathon winners Adrian Sykes and Adele Heal led a pack of 95 competitors who tackled the 21.1km course between Swim Beach and Celebrity Tree Park on Sunday.
The record field consisted of 13 male and 12 female solo competitors who ran the entire distance.
The rest completed the course in teams of two and four.
Sykes won his second consecutive solo race with a time of 1.29:59, while Heal finished the women’s competition in 1.41:24.
The duo of “Toad and Wolfie” broke a race record, crossing the finish line in just 1.23:12, while Salerno Inferno won the quad competition in 1.26:04.
Organiser Glenn Taylor said the aim of the event was to increase participation in running.
“It was great to see so many people come out and push their limits. It was the longest distance a lot of these competitors have ever run,” Taylor said.
“It was encouraging to see a number of juniors in the teams.
He said some local runners who competed at last year’s inaugural event had trained to compete in a tougher category in 2012.
Taylor congratulated everyone who took part in the event and thanked Salerno Law, Rio Tinto and the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley for their support.
He said planning for the 2013 Half Marathon was already under way.
