Couple celebrate diamond-solid marriage

Alan and Helen Errey have recently celebrated their diamond anniversary.

Narrogin couple Alan and Helen Errey celebrated their diamond anniversary among friends and family late last month.

The pair, who tied the knot on March 30, 1955 in Cranbrook, moved to Narrogin the same year where they have lived ever since.

Together they had four children, Margaret, Richard, Judith and Jonathon, and both have been heavily involved in the community; Mr Errey ran his own motor car repair business until he retired while Mrs Errey worked as a nursing sister.

They each continued community work long after retirement.

Mr Errey continues to volunteer his time as a driver to meals on wheels and Ms Errey knits beanies for children in need.

On the day of their anniversary they enjoyed friends and family visits.

"We had a lovely time," Mr Errey said.

"We have enjoyed our life together."

Mr Errey said his secret to a good marriage was give and take, as well as sharing.

Mrs Errey agreed that give and take was important.

"I agree with Alan, that give and take is important but I read something the other day about marriage; keep your eyes wide open before marriage and your eyes half closed after," she said.
