Kerr keen to soar with Magpies

Daniel Kerr wants to live in Denmark for the long-term, steer his new club towards a premiership and keep his new job he only started late last week.

The former West Coast star has arrived in Denmark three weeks out from the start of the Great Southern Football League season and committed to his new club, Denmark-Walpole, and a new life in the town.

In an exclusive interview with the _Albany Advertiser _on the eve of his first training session with the Magpies, the former AFL star said he had always envisaged his life post AFL would involve living and playing football in Denmark.

"I envisage staying here," Kerr said.

"I don't see this as a short-term thing. I would really like to live down here and I've just started the second job I have ever had after football, so hopefully I can keep that one as long as I kept my football one. I've been coming down here for a while. I've got a couple of really good mates down here and hopefully my girlfriend comes down in the near future."

While the club and new coach Matt Candy hope Kerr's profile will attract players and lift their premiership hopes after a fourth-place finish in 2014, Kerr said he was looking forward to meeting his new teammates and to "be one of the boys".

The two-time Brownlow Medal runner-up said he was committed to producing his best, which would involve ensuring his body could stand up after injuries cut short his 220-game AFL career in 2013.

"It's feeling a lot better than when I retired, but after this training session I will probably be a little bit sore," Kerr said.

"It's going to be matter of working out how fit I need to be to be able to produce the level of football I need to produce for us to win games of footy," Kerr said.

Kerr, who already has a house in the town and started work alongside Candy a day after arriving last week, revealed he was in Denmark at the time the Magpies won their 2010 premiership.

"I wasn't at the game, but I did say to my mate Gaz after that I would always come down here and play a year of football," he said.

"I just didn't think I would be that keen to live down here straight away.

"If I only play this year and I hurt myself, I will look into coaching but I don't see myself leaving Denmark for a little bit, that's for sure."
