Ambrose event raises RFDS funds

Although conditions were windy golfers still gave it a shot at the Annual Flying Doctors ambrose competition on Sunday.

Golfers took to the Katanning Country Club fairways to compete in the annual Royal Flying Doctor Service Ambrose competition last weekend.

With about 50 players, the competition was a successful day and raised more than $3000 for the RFDS.

The windy conditions did present some problems but captain Bruce Clarke said there was no rain, so overall it was a great day.

The Ambrose competition saw Craig Leckie, Andy Leckie and Lennie Garstone, who finished with an overall score of 55, take the title.

Tim Zaldow, Mike Hilder and Kevin Mathers followed closely in second place 55 1/6th, while Julie Forrest, Lynn Obrien and Josh Marshall came in third (55 1/6th).

Fourth place was closely trailed by Russell Quartermaine, Jason Flugge and Daniel Cox, who ended the day on 56.

The Katanning club have recently upgraded the fairways and Clarke said the course looked fantastic.

"The competitors are all older players that participate every year, and it was followed by a roast cooked that evening," he said.

"They all looked very happy when I left."

The day was organised by the Local Royal Flying Doctor Service committee, who provided the evening meal.

Prizes were donated by local businesses.
