Albany City Deputy Mayor Greg Stocks will represent Albany at the Anzac centenary in April.

Councillor Stocks will be hosted by the Turkish Government for two days and attend a dawn service at Anzac Cove, followed by an Australian memorial service at Lone Pine and a New Zealand memorial service at Chunuk Bair.

Albany City Council approved the cost of a return flight from the City budget on Tuesday, after the Mayor of Gallipoli invited Albany's Mayor.

Mr Wellington has a big role in Albany's Anzac Day commemorations, so Cr Stocks will take his place.

"It's a generous gesture that acknowledges the importance of Albany's Anzac role," Cr Stocks said.

He said Albany had respected Gallipoli with the naming of the Attaturk Channel.

The commemorative site can host 10,500 people and will include 8120 Australians, 2030 New Zealanders and 350 official representatives of countries involved in the Gallipoli campaign, including 100 Turkish representatives.

Cr Stocks said he hoped Albany would be on Australian residents' pilgrimage "bucket list".

"I hope that all Australians will want to make the trip to Albany in the future, the same way they go to Anzac Cove," he said.
