A truck driver who was trapped for about an hour and half in his mangled cab has been rushed to hospital this afternoon.

The driver, whose injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this stage, was taken to Albany Health Campus after he was cut free using the jaws of life.

The driver became trapped in the wreckage after two semi-trucks crashed on Chester Pass Road near the Amelup Roadhouse, about an hour north-east of Albany.

It is understood only one driver was injured.

About 40 tonnes of grain has spilled and an amount of diesel has leaked, with the road expected to be closed until at least 7pm.

Details of the crash are still unknown and police are investigating.
