Teen videos surprising 'catch'

Beachgoers at a popular swimming and fishing spot near Denmark were stunned by the sizable catch reeled in off a rocky outcrop at the weekend.

Denmark RAC operator Michael Collins was puzzled when he arrived at Boat Harbour about 11am on Sunday after receiving a call-out to retrieve a Ford Ranger dual cab ute from the ocean.

“I drove up and down the beach and couldn’t find it,” he said.

However, a scout on a jet ski soon located the silver 4wd submerged 3.5m under the water’s surface, thought to have rolled off the steep rock, which is often parked on by anglers.

It took three 4wds three hours to winch the waterlogged vehicle out of the water, after chains and cables were attached to it by a snorkeler.

“You get a lot that are partially submerged where people have been caught in the breakers or on the edge of an inlet but this is the deepest one I have seen and the first one I have not been able to find,” Mr Collins said.

“It was unusual but just another day at the office.”

Denmark teen Jessica Ross was among a large crowd of onlookers, drawn to the surprising scene.

She used her mobile phone to film a video clip of the ute’s watery resting place, which gained a lot of attention when posted to social media.

“I have never seen anything like it before – it was crazy,” she said.

“Everyone who was at the beach came over to watch.

Her clip had attracted 360 likes, 166 comments and 282 shares on one Facebook page by Wednesday morning.
