Best beaches are in the Great Southern: official

It's no secret to locals, but now it’s official – the Great Southern has some of the best beaches in Australia.

Three of the south coast’s most exceptional beaches have been named among the best in Australia in a new book, two making the top 10.

Little Beach joined Denmark’s Elephant Rocks and Peaceful Bay in the newly released 101 Australian Beaches, a comprehensive list of the country’s best sandy spots, compiled by marine scientist Andrew Short and conservationist Brad Farmer.

In the book, Professor Short and Mr Farmer name their favourite 10 beaches in Australia, with Elephant Rocks and Little Beach each making their respective top-10 lists.

Little Beach, adjacent to Two Peoples Bay, is described as leaving a “big impression” on visitors with its stunning coastal scenery and rugged granite cliffs.

Elephant Rocks, in the Williams Bay National Park, was singled out for its crystal clear waters and rocks that resemble elephants bathing.

The authors considered several factors including the views, sand and surf to headlands, geological features and amenities.
