Gas pipeline details released

The State Government has released details of the long-awaited Bunbury to Albany gas pipeline.

Following a State Cabinet meeting in Albany this morning, Premier Colin Barnett and Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls have just announced the Government has selected a preferred corridor and operational model for the 350km pipeline, which now has an estimated cost of $135 million.

Mr Barnett said a tender for the construction of the project would be awarded by mid-2013.

The pipeline will also service Mt Barker and several other towns along the corridor, including Manjimup, Donnybrook and Bridgetown.

Mr Grylls said the pipeline would have the capacity to adapt to future growth along its route, including branching to other regional centres such as Katanning, which was identified last year as one of the nine country towns part of the SuperTowns program.
