Albany man walks free

An Albany man walked free yesterday after a Supreme Court jury took less than three hours to acquit him of murder on the grounds of self defence.

The jury found Wayne Alfred Knapp stabbed his niece’s de facto partner Andrew Peter Danes to protect himself and his property during a violent altercation in March last year.

On day four of the trial in Albany, Mr Knapp was also found not guilty of the alternative charges of manslaughter and assault occasioning death, with the jury deciding his actions were by reasons of self defence against a home invader.
