Albany features on Butler live

Six of the 13 tracks featured on a new live album from Fremantle blues and roots master John Butler have been taken from a recording of his solo show in Albany.

Butler brought his unique and solo Tin Shed Tales tour to the Albany Entertainment Centre in March.

He revealed to the audience before his final song that the entire show had been recorded, and that he expected many of the recordings would be used in a live album he was planning to put together post-tour.

The four opening songs, Johnny’s Gone, Better Than, Gonna Be A Long Time and new track Kimberley were taken from the Albany show, as was Butler’s storytelling between songs.

Two songs on the second disc, including closing epic Ocean, also came from the Albany show.

The remaining recordings come from the other early dates in Butler’s tour, at the Goldfields Arts Centre in Kalgoorlie and the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.

Butler’s massive tour took him all across the country, giving him the chance to show off his skills as a multi-instrumentalist and win over a whole new legion of fans with his charismatic on-stage presence and captivating song repertoire.
